# Search tool

The server exposes one tool: `search_google_maps`. It accepts q, page, ll, hl, gl, extra, and a required `client_request_id`. Search uses the `scrapes:write` scope and one request unit per successful live page.

Results are returned directly in `structuredContent`: `total`, `params`, and up to 20 `businesses`. No follow-up status or results tool is needed. Preserve client\_request\_id and arguments on retries. Check isError and label simulated responses.

Enriched searches may reuse Maps details observed up to 730 days earlier; read `place.observedAt` and the contact timestamps. Query responses may be reused for 24 hours and website contact checks for 7 days. See [data freshness](/docs/concepts/freshness).
